Mexico: It’s Yours

Thousands of seniors from the US and Canada realize each year that Mexico is what they’ve wanted all along. Over 20,000 Americans are retiring in Mexico EVERY YEAR! The lovely climate, mild or warm, and the charming atmosphere of Mexico’s Spanish colonial cities along with a gentle people – fresh, vibrant, and energetic – make Mexico magical for nearly everyone who visits.

The ‘Tradition’ of Mexico.

Mexico is a land of many traditions. From the incredible silversmith cities of Guanajuato and Taxco that spill over the slopes of the Sierra Madre, where superb jewelry is made as it has been for hundreds of years, to the ancient cities of pre-colonial Mexico, it is a country that is alive and comfortable with as many traditions as it has peoples. All of these are open to you.

Mexico is dynamic and fun.

Mexico has a proud and creative arts tradition that is cradled in a culture that is secure continually imagining and re-imagining itself. From groundbreaking artists like Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, to the world famous ‘Cervantino’ festival in Guanajuanto and the Mazatlán carnival on the Pacific coast, it is a place rich in so many ways it simply must be experienced.

Last, but not least, Mexico is safe, close-by, and a place where if you do not speak Spanish you can do just fine! Aside from major cities like Mexico City or Tijuana, the rest of the country is laid-back, as safe, if not safer, than your own hometown.

If you are concerned about your Spanish and you’re limited to “Tequila por favor”, no worries. We will recommend a place where almost everyone around you speaks English.

Mexico’s formal name is los Estados Unidos Mexicanos, or the United States of Mexico. With just over 100,000,000 people, predominantly Spanish-speaking and Roman Catholic, other major world religions are also well-represented. Mexico has all manner of protestant and evangelical Christian churches, Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Halls, Jewish Synagogues, and Muslim Mosques.

In Mexico you’ll find a country with a well-defined sense of itself and a solidly understood way of life. One can find fun, adventure, the sporting life, and a fine gastronomy fueled by inexpensive, fresh fruits, vegetables and fish straight from the ocean. One can also find the peace of a culture content with itself. For many, Mexico seems to extend a welcome that calls us back to a time and place we remember. Belonging. A family. A home.

Mexico is a safe country. In most areas and cities of Mexico you can raise children, walk the streets without fear of any crime, and experience a quality of life far higher than you might at first imagine. The vast majority of Mexican people have a great respect for law and order, for teachers, and for similar authority figures. The Mexican people are, on the whole, very respectful in almost all circumstances. In contrast to Canada, which can sometimes be socially isolating or to the strict independence of the USA, with an every-man-for-himself attitude, Mexican society is built on interdependence. Most Mexicans feel very strongly about showing respect for authority and the family and about the societal cohesion that holds them together. Most visitors find this charming aspect of Mexico a thing to be admired. Indeed, for many, this harmonious social structure is something they’ve searched for all their lives and most travelers and settlers find the Mexican people to be a welcoming, friendly people, of singular kindness.
