Guaymas
Overview
Guaymas is a fishing town and giant shrimp are a local specialty. A port city of about 100,000 people, it is one of the largest cities on Mexico’s Pacific coast and boasts a strong real estate market. A relatively new town, Guaymas was first settled just as the Spanish Empire was ending, but people have continued moving to Guaymas and buying houses and moving in have become ever more popular. Unlike so much of Mexico, there are few remnants of the colonial era here. More a working, Mexican city than a tourist town, Guaymas sits on the Gulf of California between the Sonora and Baja California deserts. That said, Guaymas and nearby San Carlos are the principal tourist destinations in the state of Sonora and those hoping to move to Guaymas will find plenty to see and and do.
A terrific place for those who love both the desert and the sea, Guaymas is within easy reach of the Sonoran desert, and is just a ferry ride away from the deserts and beaches of Baja California Norte.
