Campeche

Overview

Campeche is the name of both the city and one of Mexico’s most beautiful states. Buying a house and retiring in Campeche is a dream for many people and has never been easier or more affordable. Sharing much of the culture and heritage of nearby Yucatan, Campeche is still a world unto itself.

The state of Campeche is located on the Yucatan Peninsula, along some of southern Mexico’s most beautiful coastlines and moving to Campeche offers many immediate and obvious rewards. One of Mexico’s largest states, the capital city of Campeche, an ancient Mayan town is in the north on the Gulf of Mexico coast. The colonial beauty of the city of Campeche was among the principal reasons it was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999, though plenty of nearby Mayan archeological sites also are noteworthy. A thriving but quiet city, Campeche retains all its rich traditions and magical culture from its early days, and even those renting homes in Campeche soon see the city’s fantastic charms and allures. The bastions and remains of its colonial walls have been converted into historical monuments, museums and gardens and from the San Miguel Fort, one can enjoy spectacular views of both the city and the tranquil Gulf of Mexico.
